Safe Staffing Levels

From June 2014, we will be publishing information about the number of nursing staff working on each ward at the RNHRD, together will the percentage of shifts meeting safe staffing guidelines.

This initiative is part of the NHS response to the Francis Report which called for greater openness and transparency in the health service.

Information about nursing staff levels on inpatient wards will be published monthly and will be available to view below. Full details will also be reported to public meetings of our Board of Directors.

In addition, each inpatient ward at the RNHRD displays a staffing status poster which shows the planned and actual numbers of nursing staff on shift each day and the name of the person in charge of the shift. These posters are displayed where they can be clearly seen by patients, visitors and staff

 Why are we gathering this data?
We are gathering and publishing this data so we can closely monitor staffing levels on our inpatient ward to ensure they are adequate to provide the level and standard of care required.  The data is reviewed by the board each month and a board report is drawn up to highlight issues and determine action as required.
