Outpatient therapy

Our rheumatology therapy department provides a wide range of services for adults and children with musculoskeletal and rheumatological conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, ankylosing spondylitis, spondyloarthropathies, hypermobility, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome and connective tissue diseases.

Our therapists are highly skilled and specialise in providing one-to-one, individualised treatment programmes and group interventions for the management of a wide range of complex rheumatological and musculoskeletal conditions. We offer a multidisciplinary approach to deliver a timely, effective and condition-specific service.

What we offer

  • Physiotherapy services: include individual musculoskeletal assessments and rehabilitation, condition-specific education, exercise advice, manual therapy; joint and soft tissue mobilisations, hydrotherapy, acupuncture and TENS.

  • Occupational therapy services: include functional assessments of activities of daily living, condition- management education and advice, hand therapy and upper limb splinting as needed. Specific advice can be given on assistive equipment and adaptations to help with home, work or leisure activities. Work assessments and work rehabilitation interventions are available on a one-to-one basis as needed.

  • Podiatry service: includes biomechanical assessment with subsequent advice and exercise, insoles and orthotics if required. Advice on foot care, footwear and tissue viability concerns.

  • Orthotist service: includes biomechanical assessment, all forms of exoskeletal orthotic bracing, specific custom-made orthoses, leg and spinal bracing, foot orthoses and specialised footwear.

  • Educational activities: for the management of long term conditions through multidisciplinary programmes for adults diagnosed with fibromyalgia, ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, lupus and scleroderma.
